A Stemmed Etruscan Plate
4th Century B.C.
Height: 2 in.
Diameter: 5-1/2 in.

This plate is of the Genucilia Group from the Etruscan city of Caere. The group name derives from an example that had the Etruscan name 'P. Genucilia' inscribed under its foot.
Prof. Mario Del Chiaro ('Etruscan Red-Figured Vase Painting at Caere' University of California (1974)) describes this as a 'star plate.' I fancy calling it, given the wave pattern on the periphery, a 'whirlpool plate.'
